Two Madison Elementary School teachers create accessible outdoor classroom & walking trail.

Two teachers (Jennifer Swain and Cristina Sirois) at Madison Elementary School had a vision for an outdoor classroom and walking trail that would be handicap accessible. Knowing the District would not be able to afford to convert the area they had in mind, they put their heads together and wrote a grant!

Two years and many obstacles later this outdoor classroom and walking trail is now complete! There is even a floating dock for students to take advantage of for a variety of academic experiences, and many benches and areas along the way to offer places to rest, draw a picture of the elements of nature around them, or to share a story of some outside adventure they might have had in the past.

This area is open for all grades in the district to use, and for the community to walk the trails and have a moment of quiet reflection on the floating dock. MSAD59 is lucky to have such ambitious and creative thinker as Mrs. Swain and Mrs. Sirois that have worked above and beyond to bring this idea to a reality.
