Storytelling 101 - Episode 4: Video Interviewing for Storytellers

Video interviews are a great way to share stories! Spread the love for your public school by conducting interviews that bring out the best of your interview subject and school!

Video Interview Tips for Storytellers

Be Prepared!

Before the interview, prepare a few questions you can ask your subject. Keep questions brief and open-ended.

It’s a Conversation!

Try to forget about the camera and microphone - approach your interview as if it’s a conversation. The more at ease your subject feels, the more natural and authentic your footage will be.

Follow Up!

Ask direct questions to get more specific information.

Try using the following prompts!

Two students reading books in a classroom

Open-Ended Prompts

  • Tell me about _____________.

  • How do you feel about _____________.

Prompts for Moving the Conversation Along

  • What happened next?

  • How did you react?

Prompts for More Detail

  • Can you describe what _____________ looked and sounded like?

Are you ready to share your story?
